Greenmount Beach, Gold Coast. 1958. Hand-Jive Hokey Pokey!

Original artwork by Jen Flynn. A playful look at a bygone era of the Gold Coast, inspired by vintage travel posters and photographs from the 1950s.

In the 50s, Greenmount Beach was famous for it's Hand-Jive Hokey-Pokey, where people would kneel in a large ring, singing along with the Hand Jive. This weekly event was MC'ed by Doug Roughton, who often acted as cupid and many romances blossomed!

Acrylic on Artist Board. This painting has been sanded back and scuffed to give it an aged appearance, in keeping with the vintage theme.
